"Every Artist was once an Amateur"

Eve Phillippa Howard

Hello,

my name is Eve Howard and I am presently studying Modern Drama Studies at Brunel University.  I am in the last few months of my final year. This online portfolio has descriptions of some of my main work and skills that I have learnt since undertaking my Degree.  My time here at Brunel has helped to expand on many skills and it has also broadened my knowledge on the various dramatic paths you can proceed on, simply by having a drama Degree.  Below is some of the modules and key skills I have learnt from being on this course:

■Performance Production

■ Writing and Devising 1&2

■ Voice and Movement Classes

■professional Development

■Confidence Building

■Physical Theatre and Expressive performance

■Academic Practice

■Originality and a inventive approach to theatre

I have always had a love for the Performing Arts. I additionally have a profound understanding of the backstage life within theatre, as I have had a great deal of experience working as a Make-up Artist for performance.  Throughout my time at University however my skills and enthusiasm for acting has    grown immensely, as I have been shown an alternative approach to working with the arts.

Prior to starting my Degree I worked both backstage on Hair and Make-up for performance, and also front stage, as an actor. Within both areas of work I have accomplished jobs that  I am extremely passionate and proud about. This work is available for you to view under the C.V page link above.

I like to think since my degree I have a unique way of performing. I have learnt that drama is not simply a Disney Film or a scripted piece. It is in fact, live art. In this era, there are no limitations of expressive art and are welcomed in the art world.  This gives a freedom of performance, which leaves the actor enabled to explore the endless possibilities of whatever they want to portray to the world.

My main style of work used to be mainly based around Musical Theatre, as this is where I have had most of my previous experience. I have had training for stage Hair and Make- up through Grease Paint, and next year will be undergoing a 2 year course with London Collage of Fashion Hair and Make-up for Film and Television. With Acting I have been a part of the National Youth Musical Theatre Company for the Last three years. I have also been trained at Watersmeet Theatre Company and Guilford School of Acting.

The Working Girl..

Within my online portfolio I am going to be writing about Hair and Make-up artistry.

“A Make-up artist (or ‘Makeup Artist’) is an artist whose medium is the human body, applying makeup and prosthetics for theatrical, television, film, fashion, magazines and other similar productions including all aspects of the modeling industry.”- Definition.

I have never had such a passion in my life than I have with experimenting with hair and make-up. I love changing the way people look with the use of a hair styles and make-up. In my eyes the bigger the better, and not in the drag queen way. I love both the beaty aspect and the horror aspect to the industry with my main influences from the students at London Collage of Fashion. Whos work amazes me every year.

For the last 5 years, I have religiously visited the course “Hair&Make-up For Film and Television” ‘s open day just to gaze at the work the previous students have created.

Okay, I am slightly obsessed

However… Where else can you go to see a girl turned into a piece of tree bark?

HAIR & MAKE UP ARTSIT

3RD YEAR BRUNEL MODERN DRAMA STUDIES

Me

My dream ever since I was very young is to become a hair and make-up artist for films and television. This isn’t just the glitz and glam you see spread across Vouge and Elle magazine. It involves so much more wired and wonderful creations that when seen on TV or film to the audience they become a character; though to the make-up artist they are simply a  work of art.

Within my blog I am going to be talking about various projects I have undertaken in relation to hair and make-up artisitry. I will present some of my recent experiements I have been working on for my new portfolio and showing influences which makes my passion for the subject keep growing and growing.
